Our Story
Researching perimenopause a decade ago was frustrating at the best of times, and the more I dug into the disjointed information, the more disheartened I felt. And I certainly didn't know what to expect heading into menopause... As I talked to friends, I realized I wasn’t alone.
Today there is a zeitgeist in the making for women's wellness and menopause care -- at long last there's more information available! Some menopause advocates and medical practitioners are leading with science and highlighting data that comes from reputable studies. Celebrities and influencers are also getting into the mix. Some have been righteously drawing attention to our plight (thanks Oprah, Halle, Naomi, Davina); others are pushing their endorsed products that are supposed to fix us. Buyer beware -- make sure you know what's in them! Social media is exploding with bite-sized, buzz-worthy nuggets of menopause-related content on Instagram and TikTok, and there's longer form content on YouTube and various websites.
I've logged some great resources and gems of wisdom over the years, so I decided to create an alternative space where I could share them with my girlfriends. Then I just got into an unstoppable groove -- sending out a menopause survey, creating a fun brand, some swag, and even a playlist -- followed by this website. I love search engines and they have their place, but they are impersonal and overwhelming with sponsored content and thousands of hits. I hope I can expand your midlife education and turn you onto some of the new menopause experts advocating for us and leading the charge today.
I also believe that a missing piece of the menopausal and 'third curve' conversation is in-person support that can come through community-building. This was the original inspiration for creating 'The Wiser Me'. Get women together in a relaxed, safe space for some bonding, fun, and education. We’re inviting topic-specific experts to speak at these free monthly women’s wellness ‘happenings’. Using crowd-sourcing, we are creating a list of local practitioners who understand this time of our lives and who provide great care.
Big thanks to the many friends who have inspired this project. And to Isabelle, Bekki, Patricia and Julia for being on 'The Wiser Me' advisory panel. It's been a labor of love.
Sending virtual hugs to those of you just looking to feel better.
I hope this site helps a little bit...
Let's all learn, give support and ultimately BE WISER.
